Tom Clancy’s The Division gets massive pro-PC response

There are a lot of PC gamers who would like to see
action/MMO The Division come to their platform, but Ubisoft is playing
this one very close to its chest.

When a lot of gamers saw Ubisoft’s reveal of Tom Clancy’s The Division
at this year’s E3, the response was pretty positive. I know I drooled
more than a little at the post-apocalytpic, open-world shooter, but for
PC gamers, there was a coda reaction when it became obvious that, so
far, it’s a console-only title.
So what about PC?
Well, Ubisoft reps generously suggested to fans on its official forums
that they might want to let Ubi know how they felt. So, cue the usual
response – a Change.org petition, calling on Ubisoft to relent and make lot of PC gamers very happy.
It’s been a hugely successful petition, too, at least in terms of
signatures. As of writing, over 117,000 gamers have put their name to
virtual paper. So how about it? We contacted Ubisoft to see if the
petition was getting any traction. The response is… well, it’s not
much.
“We’ve already confirmed that The Division will be released on next-gen
consoles, and we are very pleased with the reception the game had at
E3. We’re listening to fans and haven’t ruled out other platforms.”
Better than nothing.
It’s really not to going to take a lot of effort to create a port, so
we’re wondering if Ubisoft’s going to wait until the maximum amount of
hype has been wrung out of the next-gen console buzz-cycle before a PC
announcement. That makes a certain amount of sense, and when you take
into account that Ubisoft does have a habit of releasing PC titles a
touch late (we’re looking at you, Assassin’s Creed!), maybe playing
things a little quiet is the clever choice.
Regardless, after the success of Far Cry 3 on PC, and given the obvious
synergies between MMOs of any stripe and the PC, we can only hope that
Ubi really is listening.
